Loons On a recent Sunday morning I had the pleasure of listening to some of my favorite sounds while sipping coffee in a duck blind with a few of my friends. The first hymn of the day came from a common loon who was swimming all by his lonesome self in the middle of this beautiful piece of water. Loons are not prevalent in Montana, so upon hearing him, a lone coyote immediately chimed in with his very own solo. This went back and forth for a bit and I remember wondering what all of the commotion was about. There was an obvious connection with these two locals and I was deeply curious about the words they were sharing with their audience of five. Here's what I stumbled upon. Did you know that loons have four types of calls? Neither did I. Not only do they yodel, hoot and wail, but they can tremolo with the best of them. One could say the same about their brethren.
